Bi Feiyu is one of the most respected authors and screenwriters in China today. He has twice won the Lu Xun Prize, the Chinese equivalent of the Man Booker Prize, and his novel Moon Opera was longlisted for the UK’s Independent Foreign Fiction Prize in 1998. He has been called China’s best male writer on the female psyche.

He co-wrote the screenplay of his novel Shanghai Triad, which was made into a film directed by acclaimed Chinese director Zhang Yimou and was shortlisted for a Golden Globe.

Three Sisters, which won the Man Asian Literary Prize in 2010, portrays the public humiliations and private aspirations of three very different sisters trying to control their destinies in a China that does not belong to them. In August 2011, his recent work about blind masseurs, Massage, won the Mao Dun Literary Prize.
