Andy Smart is a well-known translator and publisher who, together with his wife Nadia Fouda-Smart, set up a publishing company in Cairo before moving to London. They have collaborated on many translation projects including The Smiles of Saints (2007) and The Hashish Waiter (December 2009).
Andy is currently Consultant Publisher to Bloomsbury Qatar Foundation Publishing, based in Doha. BQFP's objective is to publish original titles and translations for adults and children from and into both Arabic and English. Their first titles will be published in April 2010 and include an Arabic edition of the bestselling children's title, The Gruffalo, and an English translation of Inaam Kachachi's The American Granddaughter, shortlisted for the International Arabic Prize for Fiction.
