Badriah Al Bishr is a novelist and journalist from Saudi Arabia. A collection of her short stories were published in 1992 as The End of the Game, with further collections published in 1996 and 1999 as Wednesday Evening and Pill Cardamom respectively. She is also the author of India and the Military (2005) and The Battles of Tash Ma Tash (2007), the latter dealing with the controversies surrounding the popular Saudi Arabian satirical comedy series. Her new novel, Women Dice, will be published in 2010.

Badriah worked as a social worker after obtaining her bachelor’s degree in Social Studies from King Saud University, Riyadh. After returning to King Saud University to gain a master’s degree in the Philosophy of Arts, she began lecturing there herself while also pursuing a career in journalism. Beginning with a weekly column in the magazine Al Yamamah, she moved on to write a daily column in the newspaper Al Riyadh.

In 2005 she gained her Ph.D in the Philosophy of Sociology from Lebanese University, Beirut. At this time she also wrote for the newspaper Arshaq Al Aswat. In 2008 she took her current position as columnist for Al Hayat.

Badriah has been involved in short story readings and cultural gatherings across the Arab world, including the Sharjah Girls’ Club and events at the Literary Clubs of Riyadh, Medina and Muscat. She was also invited to the United States to discuss American media as part of the January 2005 International Visitor Program.
