Story writing competition

What is the competition?

The theme of this year’s short story competition is The Mystery. Entrants are welcome to choose their own title. (Please note that there is a separate section for Arabic writers).

What is the prize?

All the winning entries will be published by Jerboa Books (UAE). Each winner will receive 5 copies of the book.

Who can enter?

There are four age categories with different word limits which relate to your age on November 5th 2010.

Ages 11 and under – up to a maximum of 500 words
Ages 12 - 14– up to a maximum of 1000 words
Ages 15 - 18 – up to a maximum of 1500 words
Age 18+ for undergraduates in full-time education - up to a maximum of

1500 words

How to submit:
Write your story – although you have to stick to the theme, use your imagination and creativity to the full

Check that you have followed all the rules

Complete all sections of the online entry form

Send by e-mail directly from the website

Winners will be notified before The Emirates Festival of Literature in early March 2011

Terms and Conditions:

Entrants must be from or resident in UAE
Entries to be:
•	 original work and written in English 
•	in Times New Roman font, size 12 point, 1.5 line spacing
•	submitted via the LitFest website www.emirateslitfest.com/writingcompetition (receipt of entries will be acknowledged by email only) 
•	on the theme of The Mystery
•	stories and not chapters or prologues 
•	no longer than the word limit; entries exceeding the word limit are disqualified. 
•	accompanied by an application form, which includes consent from parents or guardians, giving the entrant permission to take part in the Competition
•	received before the closing date of 5th November 2010

By entering the competition, entrants agree to observe the terms and conditions of the Competition, which includes permission to publish winning entries in whatever format is deemed appropriate.

Judges’ decisions are final and no correspondence will be entered into with regard to these decisions.

Please note that entries which do not adhere to the terms and conditions will not be considered, in accordance with normal conventions for international Writing Competitions.
